Play education for parents
Nuvori Kids courses and articles are general play and parenting education for adults who care for young children. They describe activities and explain why they matter, but they are written for a general audience and cannot take your child's age, development, health, allergies or home into account.
The courses are not a developmental assessment, a diagnosis, therapy (including occupational, speech and language or play therapy) or medical, psychological or educational advice about your child, and they do not replace a pediatrician, a health visitor, a therapist or a teacher. Nobody at Nuvori Kids observes or assesses children, looks at photos or videos, or gives individual advice.
The courses draw on published guidance from recognised child health and early education bodies. Guidance changes, and while we review and update the courses, we cannot guarantee that every statement reflects the latest advice on the day you read it.
Safety rules for every activity
- Supervise. An adult must actively supervise every activity, within arm's reach for children under 3 and for any play with water.
- Water. Never leave a child alone with water, even a few centimetres in a tray, a bowl or a bath. Empty containers straight after play.
- Choking. For children under 3, and for any child who still puts things in their mouth, use no object small enough to pass through a toilet-paper tube. That includes dried beans, small pasta, beads, marbles, buttons, coins, bottle caps, small pom-poms, whole grapes, nuts and popcorn, and uninflated or burst balloons.
- Never use water beads (gel beads), button or coin batteries, small or loose magnets, plastic bags, or cords, ribbons and strings that could go around a neck.
- Materials. Use art and craft materials labelled non-toxic and suitable for your child's age, and follow product labels and age warnings. Glue guns, craft knives and sharp scissors stay with adults.
- Food and allergies. Check allergies before any play with food or dough (wheat, gluten, nuts, dairy, egg). Raw flour and raw dough must not be eaten.
- Skin and face paint. Use face paint made for skin, test it on a small patch first, and stop if the skin reacts.
- Outdoors. Protect from sun and heat, stay away from roads and open water, never let children eat plants, berries or mushrooms found outside, and wash hands after soil and animals.
- Stop when needed. End any activity if your child is distressed, tired or unwell. Play should never be forced.
Emergencies. If a child is choking, has swallowed a battery or a magnet, has trouble breathing, or is seriously hurt, call your local emergency number immediately (112 in Portugal and the European Union). In Portugal you can also call the SNS 24 health line on 808 24 24 24, and the Poison Information Centre (CIAV) on 800 250 250.
Development: when to ask a professional
Children develop at different rates and the age ranges in the courses are rough guides, not targets. Talk to your pediatrician, family doctor or health visitor if your child loses skills they already had, is not using words when most children of that age are talking, does not respond to their name or to sounds, shows little interest in people, or if anything about their development worries you. You know your child best, and a professional can look at it with you.
No promised results
We do not promise earlier reading, better behaviour, school readiness, higher intelligence or any other result. The photographs on this website are stock images of models and do not show the results of any course.
Your responsibility
You decide which activities to run, with which materials and with which children, and you are responsible for supervising them. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss or damage resulting from the way you use the material. Nothing in this notice limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or the mandatory rights of consumers.
